Bio

In San Francisco for close to fifteen years, Jon Roniger has come a long way from his New Orleans roots. With Jim Croce and Simon & Garfunkel as his early musical influences, Jon started his musical career at the age of ten in his church choir. At the age of 17, he picked up a guitar and began exploring his own musical style.

Jon Roniger carries on the tradition of the American Roots Singer/Songwriter with moxie. Often likened to Tom Petty, John Mellencamp and Paul Simon he crafts memorable toe-tappers with a balance of simple clarity, heartfelt honesty and soulful delivery.

Jon recently moved to Nashville, TN where he continues to write, record and perform. Jon has become a favorite on the coffeehouse and listening room circuit. The 2005 self-released album “My World” was critically acclaimed on college and international radio. “Man and Guitar”, Jon’s first live album due out in January 2007, features 10 new tracks and showcases the energy captured in the nearly 150 national and international performances during 2006.

As a songwriter Jon strives to draw the listener in with his lighthearted songs about life, love and loss. He’s an exceptional storyteller. His songs take you on a fantastic joy ride through all the big moments and all those little moments that build a love story. Offering a matter-of-fact and sometimes ironic look at life, Jon offers his commentary on the world armed with a marble notebook and an acoustic guitar.

Jon Roniger Reviews

Jon Roniger - Addicted: Not leaving any leaf unturned when it comes to composition, dynamics, or the use of instruments - singer songwriter Jon Roniger is truly a master of his craft. 'Addicted' rings with a realism that we can all identify in our own fashion, reminding us that people are people, and beneath it all - we all have some kind of emotion that runs through our veins. Jon's got one of those intimate raw voices that get you really listening to the lyrics - and let's not forget about the awesome harmonies. You'll hear something new every time you listen to this album. It's got a major dose of originality and if you try to compare Jon to anyone else - you'll be picking out the good stuff from the pros-including Mellencamp, Elvis Costello, and even The Rolling Stones.

Lisa D. Smith of The Blend Magazine, October 2004

Jon Roniger's "Addicted" is one of the best records I've heard this year. The arrangements are, to me, at once simple, and rich. The lyrics range from heartbreaking to downright funny, and Jon's singing style is nothing but pure truth. I've had the pleasure of witnessing Jon make a lot of people happy in his live performances, and I'm certain that he'll accomplish the same degree of success with this terrific new record.

The Jon Roniger Trio bills itself as "lighthearted songs of love and loss" - which is sarcasm and irony. They're really about opening a vein and ending it all over failed romance or maybe something in between those extremes. Two men on guitars and a woman singer who resembled a younger Stevie Nicks (or Stevie in her youth with Fleetwood Mac) sang about having A.D.D. in "My World", in which the pain of love must be numbed by alcohol, drugs and nicotine. (Hey, that's my world too! Kidding. I don't smoke cigarettes). The second number compared the end of love affairs to lying down on a bed of nails. But the third, "I Was Just Leaving, But Maybe I'll Stay", somehow sneaked in some optimism.

Sister Dana Van Iquity, San Francisco Bay Times. July 15, 2004. Review of performance at Viva Variety, July 6, 2004.

... San-Francisco-based Jon Roniger has just released an album entitled Addicted, which sounds like a mix between Joe Cocker and David Gray.
